An aircar is a VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) vehicle capable of taking off and landing like a helicopter, but which flies like an airplane.

Aircars can increase or decrease their altitude by 20 meters a turn.

When scouting, aircars fly at or above the level of the treetops, 50 to 100 meters above the ground. To stay out of sight they can fly very close to the ground, following the contours of the hills and valleys. This is called Nap of the Earth (NOE) flying. NOE flying limits an aircar to 100 kph (175 meters/turn).

In case of an emergency, non-Yazirian passengers can escape with the use of a parawing glider. A parawing is a small, emergency glider, similar to a glijet with no rocket. A parawing will not work if the wearer was less than 10 meters above the ground when he or she jumped.

Military Modifications

Do to their speed and flight capability, it is not unusual for aircars to be outfitted with weapons and armor. On most civilized worlds, operating a modified combat vehicle without proper permits or authority is highly illegal. Such vehicles are typically modified for air-assault and ground support roles. Vehicles fitted with concealable weapons and armor fittings are likely designed for criminal activity or insurgency.

If armed, an aircar can be fitted with a vehicular turret of any size, up to 20 coats of armor (5 for concealed coats) and up to 4 slots for vehicle-mounted weapons. Each coat costs 11,000 credits (this includes reflective coating), or 13,000 for concealed coats. Screens, such as Albedo or Inertia, are powered by an econopack — 250 SEU, 25kg, 1250 credits — and requires 15,000 credits for assorted systems and adapters.
