A monocycle is a specialized form of Ground Cycle. Unlike a standard ground cycle, a monocycle has only one large wheel on which it travels, located under the cycle's center of gravity.

Most monocycles use a high-performance electric engine powered by a parabattery similar to the way a ground cycle does. However, some monocycles are fitted with either hydrogen or hydrocarbon-burning engines instead.[1] Due to their higher performance, monocycles have less range than their two-wheeled cousins.

A monocycle utilizes a special gyroscopic compensator that allows it to be piloted in the same manner as a regular ground cycle at no penalty. This compensator is very rugged and reliable, but can be damaged, in which case the monocycle rider is at -40 to maintain control.[2]

The high-performance nature of monocycles makes them attractive to military organizations. In addition to their higher speed, monocycles can navigate slopes of up to 50o as needed.

Rules for modifying monocycles for combat are the same as those for ground cycles except as follows: a turret mounted to a monocycle is an arm-mount attached to the chassis of the vehicle directly behind the rider. Such a turret is limited to small-size (pistol equivalent) weapons only. The turret has a forward, off-axis firing arc equal to a maximum of 200o (100o on either side of the rider). The turret is steered by a computer link to the rider's helmet that tracks the direction the

Notes[]

  1. Monocycles with internal combustion engines have a maximum range of 500 km.
  2. Game Master's discretion as to if this occurs.
