Heavy Laser 2

A heavy laser is a light-based beam weapon about the size of a heavy machine gun. It must be mounted on a tripod or a swivel mount to be fired. It has longer range than a laser rifle, and a minimum SEU setting of 5. Otherwise it operates the same as the laser rifle.

Heavy lasers have an adjustable power setting ranging from 5 to 20, consuming an equal number of SEU per shot; lower settings are less damaging than higher settings, but all settings are technically "lethal", with no available "stun" setting.

A heavy laser can be fed via an armoured cable from a power beltpack or backpack. Dedicated military heavy weapons teams usually have the team´s second member carry an econopack or a parabattery. In fixed emplacements, pintle-mounted heavy lasers may be fed from the redoubt´s generator.

Heavy Laser, Vehicle-mounted

Vehicle mounted laser

A vehicle mounted heavy laser is even more powerful than a standard heavy laser. As the name implies, it is typically mounted on a vehicle, though nothing prevents it from being mounted in a fixed fortification as well. It is capable of being dialed up to 30 SEU per shot, and has a longer range. Vehicle-mounted heavy lasers usually operate off of a power econopack or the vehicles or emplacement´s generator.

References

The standard heavy laser is described in the Alpha Dawn rulebook. The vehicle-mounted version of from the article "Tanks a Lot" in Dragon #91.
