Toolkit

Toolkit

Techkits contain all of the tools a Technician needs to make field repairs on vehicles and other equipment. Because plasteel is used to make so many items that formerly were made of steel or iron, the kit weighs only 20 (or 12)[1] kg and can be carried in a backpack.

A fully-stocked standard Techkit costs 500 Cr. Workshops usually have more tools and parts than a standard techkit, and can easily replenish a depleted kit.

A standard techkit contains the following:

  • Electrodriver — rotates all shapes and size of screws and bolts
  • Electrosnips — powered metal-cutting shears (sheet metal only)
  • Insulated wire — 10 meters
  • Ion Bonding Tape — 10 cm wide x 5 m long, bonds directly to any metal
  • Hammer — large ball-peen high-impact head
  • Jack — 5,000 kg capacity, .5 meter lift, collapses to a 20cm cube [2][3]
  • Magnegrips — electromagnetic vice-grips
  • Open end wrench — adjustable as socket wrench
  • Plastibond — tube of plastic filler, bonds to any plastic surface in one minute; five applications
  • Prybar — 1 meter plasteel rod, collapses to 10 cm
  • Spray lubricant — 10 applications of pressurized synthoil
  • Spray waterproofing — will insulate circuits, cloth, etc., from moisture; five applications
  • Socket wrench — adjustable from 5 mm to 5 cm
  • Uninsulated wire — 25 meters, can support 2,000 kg
  • 10 hoses — of assorted sizes
  • 500 nuts, bolts, clamps, screws and nails — of assorted shapes and sizes

Notes & References[]

  1. The description notes 20kg while the cost/weight tables notes 12kg.
  2. Approximately 8 inches on each side.
  3. Alpha Dawn pp. 45 states "200 cm", which is most certainly a typo or misprint, since it is nonsensical; a cube 2 meters on a side after collapsing is ridiculous for a portable kit that weighs under 20 kg, while assuming that it is 200 cubic cm yields a cube just a hair under 5.85 cm (2.3 inches) on each side.
